Why write articles for companies or organisations?
Companies and other organisations often represent a vast knowledge base on certain subject areas at different levels, and many don't realise the potential value in sharing, both for the industry as a whole but also for the company them selves. Be it a small practice or a large international company there are a variety of reasons for sharing knowledge. Here are just some.
For small companies
Small practices can use designing buildings to develop articles on specialist knowledge areas that inform the potential clients of the work they do. New projects, proposals, research or opinion pieces can be shared via the site gaining greater exposure than if this were on the company website alone.
For large companies
Larger companies can share project work, reports, white papers, practice research, industry blogs or short definitions relating to the expertise of the practice. Employees can create individually named content, under the company profile, gaining useful experience in developing and writing industry content, often acting as a form of reaffirmation of their own specialist knowledge areas.
For team building
Companies have in the past also used Designing Buildings as an office engagement tool, running lunchtime writing workshops on different subjects, leading to discussions between colleagues and shared understanding, helping improve collaboration, co-creation and affirmation of areas of expertise.
For product manufacturers
Product manufacturers can share their expertise on certain aspects of generic products, better informing potential customers on product choices. Whilst Designing Buildings does not accept articles that are oriented to the direct sales of individual products, the company profile can be placed at the top of informative articles, directing readers and potential customers to their specific products.

By creating an account, members, employees and individuals of an organisation can contribute relevant and informative articles with their name if they wish at the bottom, whilst the company or organisation can keep track of all articles that have been written, and the topics covered, to build a knowledge base of certain expertise. Contributing to the content already on Designing Buildings in turn helps our site to elevate content created by the organisations themselves.
Designing Buildings wiki is used by around 9 million people a year, with content focussed on the UK, the site itself is accessed internationally, the benefits of which can be accessed for free in exchange for relevant industry content. Ceating a profile
Whilst Designing Buildings has many registered individuals that contribute articles to the site, there are also a large number of authors who represent or write on behalf of a company, or an organisation. Creating a free account for a company or organisation follow the link here to register on Designing Buildings, add the logo, website and contact details, these will then appear at the top of any article that is linked to that account.
Registered users get their own page, which is a profile page that informs others all about the organisation, and unlike articles, this page can include promotional information, logos, images, links to webpages and so on. It represents the opportunity to write about the capabilities, experience, products or services offered by the organisation.
